Vancouver, B – written Monday, December 9th, 2024 – As the industrial world gears up for HANNOVER MESSE 2025, a global beacon of innovation in industrial technology, the spotlight is firmly set on the inaugural H2Eco Award. Organized by Deutsche Messe AG in collaboration with the German Hydrogen Association (DWV), this prestigious accolade is an invitation for companies and institutions pioneering advancements in the hydrogen economy to showcase their groundbreaking projects. Submissions are open until February 10, 2025, with the award ceremony scheduled for April 1, 2025, during the Public Forum Hydrogen + Fuel Cells EUROPE at the trade fair.
The H2Eco Award seeks to recognize excellence in the hydrogen sector, particularly focusing on innovative solutions that embody the principles of economic viability, sustainability, and security of supply. In a world increasingly turning to renewable energy sources, green hydrogen has emerged as a pivotal player in transitioning to a sustainable future. This award emphasizes the critical role that innovators play in this journey, highlighting projects that not only promise potential but also realize it in practical, economically viable ways.
A distinguished and independent jury comprised of experts from various fields—ranging from politics and business to research and civil society—will select three nominees from the pool of submissions. The winner of the H2Eco Award will be announced during the high-profile event in Hannover, showcasing their innovative contributions to the hydrogen sector.
Friederike Lassen, CEO of the DWV, expressed her enthusiasm regarding the award’s impact, stating, “HANNOVER MESSE 2025 will see the H2Eco Award presented for the fourth time already. We are proud that, through this award, we can honor outstanding players in the hydrogen industry for their exceptional work and thus also give something back to those involved.” This sentiment underscores the collaborative spirit that drives the hydrogen community—recognizing and rewarding those who are committed to advancing this dynamic field.
Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board of Deutsche Messe AG, further emphasized the potential of hydrogen as a transformative energy carrier. He noted the necessity of accelerating its adoption and scaling. “The current pace of implementation and scaling is insufficient. We are pleased to play a significant role in helping establish a stable hydrogen economy through the H2Eco Award,” he remarked. This recognition aligns with the broader objectives of HANNOVER MESSE 2025, which will bring together over 5,000 exhibiting companies with a shared commitment to industrial transformation.
As the countdown to HANNOVER MESSE 2025 commences, the excitement around the H2Eco Award builds, promising to highlight the remarkable potential of hydrogen technologies. From smart manufacturing to energy solutions, the event will feature a comprehensive exploration of innovation within the industrial sector, with Canada serving as the partner country for this year’s fair.
The hydrogen economy is not merely a vision; it is a growing reality that holds the promise of a sustainable future. The H2Eco Award serves as both a recognition of past achievements and an encouragement for future innovations that will shape the landscape of energy. Industry leaders and innovators are now called to enter this esteemed competition, contributing to a greener tomorrow.
H2Eco Award 2024
At HANNOVER MESSE 2024, the H2Eco Award was presented to the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park, a consortium comprising several partners. The project combines the production of green hydrogen from wind energy with the storage, transport and use thereof on an industrial scale. This involves a 50 MW wind farm, a 30 MW large-scale electrolyzer and a converted natural gas pipeline. The hydrogen is stored in a salt cavern and subsequently transported to a nearby refinery. The award acknowledged a truly innovative model for a sustainable hydrogen economy.
HANNOVER MESSE
HANNOVER MESSE is the world’s leading trade fair for industry. 5,000 exhibiting companies from the engineering, electrical and digital industries, as well as the energy sector, come together under the main theme of “Industrial Transformation” to present solutions for production and energy supply, today and tomorrow. The main exhibiting areas for 2025 will be Smart Manufacturing, Digital Ecosystems, Energy for Industry, Compressed Air & Vacuum Technology, Engineered Parts & Solutions, Future Hub and International Trade & Investment. A conference program with around 1,600 speakers complements the program. This trade fair will be held next in Hanover from March 31 to April 4, 2025. The partner country is Canada.
