Vancouver, BC – Written February 2, 2024 – Last year, Isabelle Poupart, Minister and Deputy Head of the Embassy of Canada in Germany, and Dr. Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG, signed the official letter of intent at HANNOVER MESSE, designating Canada as the partner country for HANNOVER MESSE 2025 in Germany next year. Canada formalized its participation as partner host country at HANNOVER MESSE 2025 at a signing ceremony on the opening day of the 2023 trade show.

According to the Hannover Messe web page: “The Canadian government and private sector companies are currently supporting five superclusters in Canada with approximately 1.2 billion euros to strengthen and position innovative industries internationally. The goal is to create 50,000 jobs and achieve economic growth of 34 billion euros over the next 10 years. Three of the superclusters – SCALE.AI, Advanced Manufacturing, and Digital Technology – are focal themes of HANNOVER MESSE.”

The year was 1947. In postwar Germany’s ravaged economy, food supplies were scarce and Industrial output in 1947 was only one-third its 1938 level. Moreover, a large percentage of Germany’s working-age men were dead. Reconstruction? Impossible without international support. As far as the British occupying forces were concerned, it was necessary to find a symbol that presented the passion and the economic potential of German workers and entrepreneurs to the rest of the world.
The company known as “Deutsche Messe- und Ausstellungs-AG” was born – and with it, the “Hannover Export Fair 1947”.
During the run-up to the EXPO 2000 World Exposition in Hannover, Deutsche Messe invests heavily in infrastructure. Spending more than 1.6 billion euros, the company and public authorities modernize and expand the exhibition grounds and local mass transit. The wooden Expo Canopy is also erected. Hannover acquires the world’s biggest and most modern exhibition center.
Deutsche Messe becomes the first exhibition company to take up the mega-trends of digitalization into its product portfolio by focusing on the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0.
In 2018, the merger of the annual Industrial Automation (IA) with the biennial Motion, Drive & Automation (MDA) – both flagship shows within HANNOVER MESSE. IA and MDA cover the entire spectrum of industrial automation, drive and fluid technology at HANNOVER MESSE.
For the first time, CeMAT, the world’s most important intralogistics trade fair, was held in parallel with HANNOVER MESSE.
In 2019, under the project name “Smart Venue,” the Hannover exhibition center is being upgraded to become the world’s first 5G exhibition center.
In 2023, HANNOVER MESSE was again be organized as a physical trade show. Due to the pandemic, it was postponed and held over four days from May 30 to June 2. The relaunch was a success with 2,500 exhibitors and 75,000 visitors. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opens the fair for the first time.
