Vancouver, BC – written Monday, March 24, 2025 – Chor Leoni’s signature community choral festival, The Big Roar, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in a grand way! On May 3, 2025, at 4:00 PM, audiences will gather at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver for an unforgettable choral experience. Thanks to a $25,000 sponsorship gift from TD Bank Group, more than 800 $5 TD Community Roar Tickets will be available, ensuring that this inspiring event is accessible to all.
A Decade of Music, Community, and Inclusion
For the past ten years, The Big Roar has grown into a beloved event, bringing together audiences of all backgrounds to celebrate the power of choral music. Chor Leoni Artistic Director Erick Lichte describes the festival as a “beacon of hope and light” that fosters engagement and appreciation for choral singing. With TD’s generous support, more people than ever before will have the opportunity to experience this unique musical celebration.
An Unparalleled Choral Experience
The Big Roar is unlike any other choral event in Canada, featuring performances by five incredible choirs:
- Chor Leoni (JUNO-nominated vocal ensemble)
- MYVoice educational choirs (free program for youth aged 12-24)
- MYVoice PRÉLUDE program (new in 2025 for younger singers in grades 5-7)
- Emerging Choral Artists (pre-professional tenors, baritones, and basses aged 18-30)
- The Leonids (a nine-member professional ensemble)
With over 250 singers performing, The Big Roar will culminate in Canada’s largest lower-voice choral ensemble, offering audiences an immersive and uplifting experience. The concert will also feature a world premiere by Marie-Claire Saindon, Chor Leoni’s composer-in-residence.
Community Impact and Youth Engagement
Chor Leoni’s mission extends beyond performance, aiming to train, educate, and inspire young singers. The MYVoice program, operating in Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, and Coquitlam, will involve over 80 youth in its 10-week training program, culminating in a performance at The Big Roar.
Additionally, the new MYVoice PRÉLUDE program, led by Carrie Taylor, will provide young singers in grades 5-7 with an opportunity to develop their vocal skills and perform alongside established choirs.
Supporting Accessibility and the Arts
TD Bank Group’s support aligns with its mission to increase access to arts and culture. Catherine Dangerfield, Assistant Pacific Region Head, TD Wealth, expressed pride in collaborating with Chor Leoni to make music accessible to the broader community.
