
Vancouver, BC – written on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 – Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Opera is set to close its 2024–2025 season with Giacomo Puccini’s beloved masterpiece, Madama Butterfly. This visually stunning and emotionally moving production will grace the stage of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for five performances:
- Saturday, April 26, 7:30 PM
- Sunday, April 27, 2:00 PM
- Thursday, May 1, 7:30 PM
- Saturday, May 3, 7:30 PM
- Sunday, May 4, 2:00 PM
Set in early 20th-century Japan, Madama Butterfly tells the poignant story of Cio-Cio-San, a young geisha who falls in love with American naval officer B.F. Pinkerton, only to endure heartbreak and tragedy. Puccini’s exquisite score, filled with soaring melodies and deep emotion, makes this opera a timeless favorite.
A World-Class Cast and Creative Team
Bringing this masterpiece to life is a stellar international cast. The role of Cio-Cio-San will be performed by two sopranos: Tokyo-born Yasko Sato (April 26, May 1, May 3) and Korean-American Karen Chia-Ling Ho (April 27, May 4). Playing the role of B.F. Pinkerton are American tenor Robert Watson (April 26, May 1, May 3) and Canadian tenor Adam Luther (April 27, May 4).

Conducting the Vancouver Opera Orchestra is Music Director Jacques Lacombe, known for his dynamic interpretations. Making her Vancouver Opera debut is Mo Zhou, an acclaimed stage director recognized for her fresh approach to classic works.
